Laboratory Drug Testing

Standard Urine Testing

One of the most common ways of screening, urine testing is an accurate and reliable way to test for drugs of abuse and can detect casual drug use that occurred within 72 hours (1-3 days).

Specimen Validity testing

With specimen validity testing protocols, you can ensure the integrity of your urine drug test by measuring pH, creatinine levels and specific gravity, ensuring that no adulterant has been added to the urine specimen

Adulterants are foreign substances either ingested or added directly to a urine specimen to prevent the detection of drug use. Promoted as "cleansing agent," these substances range from everyday household items to specific chemical additives easily obtained through the Internet.

Hair Testing

A non-invasive, adulterant-resistant test for the 5 most common classes of drugs (including ecstasy), hair testing provides accurate results and up to a 90-day history of drug use.

Alcohol Testing

Offered as laboratory-based urine or blood tests, our alcohol tests provide rapid, accurate and reliable results.

Steroid Testing

Anabolic steroid abuse and the use of other performance-enhancing drugs has become an increasing cause of concern. Our steroid testing detects 20 different anabolic agents (and their metabolites) commonly used by body builders, distance runners and other athletes. Our panel also includes testing for masking agents (e.g. probenecid, used for blocking the urinary excretion of some steroids). Drug identification and confirmation is done using the chromatography/ mass spectrometry (GC/MS) technology.

Point-of-Collection Testing (On-site)

Express Results®

With Express Results® you can test a urine sample on-site and obtain results within a matter of minutes. Testing can be conducted for 1 to 10 drugs at one time, and you can read the results for up to 60 minutes.

Q.E.D.® (Instant Saliva Alcohol Testing)

Designed for alcohol-use detection, the non-invasive Q.E.D.® onsite saliva test highly accurate results with quick readouts.

Our basic panels, either point-of-care or lab-based, test for following drugs:

Laboratory testing

  • Amphetamine
  • Cocaine
  • Marijuana
  • Opiates
  • PCP
  • Methamphetamine
  • Barbiturates
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Methadone
  • Propoxyphene

In addition to these 10 drugs, Quest Diagnostics has the capability to test for other commonly abused drugs such as Oxycodene, MMDA (Ecstacy) or Ketamine

When to Test?

Pre-employment drug screening is a good practice and is the first step to creating a drug-free, cost-effective, highly productive workplace.

How Drug Testing Works?

All substance abuse specimens submitted to Quest Diagnostics are initially tested using a screening technique called enzyme immunoassay (EIA), which is an objective, computerized and automated method to ensure reliable results. Quest Diagnostics also offers secondary confirmation by Gas Chromatography/ Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), considered by many experts to be the gold standard in drugs of abuse confirmation methods.
